What Appliance Repair Costs in Portland
The short answer: a $90 diagnostic visit, applied toward the repair if you go ahead, and a price for the repair itself before any work begins.
The diagnostic fee
Every repair starts with a diagnostic visit, and it costs $90. We come to your home, test the appliance and find the cause.
- If you go ahead with the repair, the $90 is applied toward the repair.
- If you decide not to repair, you pay the $90 for the diagnosis and nothing else.
- You know the full price before any repair work begins.
What the repair itself costs
We do not print a price list, because the same symptom can be a small part or a large one. A refrigerator that is not cooling may need a relay or a compressor; the difference is found by testing, not by guessing over the phone. The price you get after the diagnosis is the price for your appliance.
What the price is made of
- The part. Parts for premium and built-in appliances cost more than parts for mass-market ones.
- The labor. Some parts are reached in ten minutes; for others the appliance has to come out of the cabinets or come apart.
- A second visit, when a part has to be ordered and fitted later.
Refrigerator repair cost
The widest spread of any appliance. A fan motor, a defrost part or a start relay is a small repair. A control board costs more. Sealed-system work (a compressor, an evaporator, a leak) is the most expensive repair on a refrigerator, because the refrigerant has to be recovered and the system recharged; on an ordinary refrigerator it is worth comparing with the price of a new one, while on a built-in refrigerator the repair is usually the better buy.
Washer repair cost
Drain pumps, door locks, belts and inlet valves are routine repairs. Drum bearings are the expensive one: the machine comes almost fully apart, and on some models the part is sold only as a whole outer tub.
Dryer repair cost
Most dryer repairs are among the least expensive: a thermal fuse, a heating element, an igniter, a belt or a set of drum rollers. The motor and the control board cost more.
Dishwasher repair cost
A drain pump, an inlet valve or a door latch is a modest repair. A circulation pump or a control board costs more, and on an older basic dishwasher that is where replacing starts to make sense.
Oven and stove repair cost
An igniter, a bake element or a temperature sensor is a routine repair. Control boards and glass tops are the costly parts; on a premium range the part alone can be a large share of the bill.
Microwave repair cost
A countertop microwave is rarely worth a repair visit. A built-in or over-the-range microwave usually is: a door switch, a fuse or a magnetron costs far less than a new unit and its installation.
Warranty
Our work and the parts we install carry a 90-day warranty. The terms are printed on your invoice.
When a repair is not worth it
Sometimes the honest answer is "replace it": an old appliance, an expensive part, a second major fault on the way. We say so when we see it, and the decision stays yours.
