Oven Repair in Portland, Oregon

An oven that will not heat, bakes unevenly or stays locked after a self-clean: Mend My Appliance repairs gas and electric ovens at home across the Portland metro area.

This page is about the oven itself: a wall oven, a double oven, or the oven of a range. For burners and the range as a whole, see stove and range repair. A cooktop set into the counter is booked as its own appliance.

Oven problems we fix

Not heating

In an electric oven, a bake or broil element or the relay that feeds it; in a gas oven, a weak igniter that glows but never opens the gas valve.

What to check first: not heating

Temperature is off, or baking is uneven

A temperature sensor that has drifted, a convection fan that has stopped, a door gasket that leaks heat, or a control that needs calibration.

Door will not unlock after self-cleaning

A latch motor or a switch that failed in the heat of the cycle, or a thermal fuse that opened. Do not force the door.

Gas oven will not light but the burners work

The oven has its own igniter. It weakens with age and is the most common oven repair on a gas range.

Display is dead, or the oven will not turn on

A thermal fuse, a control board or a power supply. After a self-clean cycle the fuse is the first suspect.

An F-code or another error on the display

The code names a circuit: the sensor, the door lock, the keypad. We test it before we replace a board.

Broiler works but bake does not, or the other way round

Each has its own element or burner and its own relay, so one can fail alone.

Repairs we do

  • Bake and broil elements
  • Oven igniters and gas safety valves
  • Temperature sensors and thermostats
  • Control boards, relay boards and touchpads
  • Convection fan motors and cooling fans
  • Door hinges, gaskets and latch assemblies
  • Thermal fuses and wiring damaged by heat

Types of ovens we work on

  • Single and double wall ovens
  • The oven of a gas, electric or dual-fuel range
  • Convection ovens
  • Combination wall ovens

Oven, range or cooktop?

A range is one appliance with burners on top and an oven below. A wall oven is built into the cabinets and has no burners. A cooktop is the burners alone, set into the counter. The repairs differ, so the booking form asks which one you have.

How an oven repair visit works

  • Book online: choose the appliance, describe the problem and pick up to three times that suit you.
  • We confirm one of your times by phone or text. You are not booked until we do.
  • We come to your home, test the oven and find the cause.
  • You get the price before any repair begins. We repair it with your approval; if a part has to be ordered, we come back to fit it.

The diagnostic visit costs $90. If you go ahead with the repair, the $90 is applied toward it; if you decide not to repair, the $90 covers the diagnosis.

Our work and the parts we install carry a 90-day warranty. The terms are printed on your invoice.

What appliance repair costs

Oven brands we repair

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Maytag, KitchenAid, Bosch, Electrolux, Wolf, Viking, Miele, Monogram, Thermador, JennAir, Kenmore, Amana, GE Profile, Café, Fisher & Paykel, Dacor, Hotpoint, Bertazzoni, Smeg, Sharp, Gaggenau and BlueStar. If your brand is not in the list, ask: most ovens share their parts and their faults.

All the brands we repair

Before the visit

  • If a gas oven does not light, do not keep trying. If you smell gas, leave the home and call your gas utility or 911 from outside.
  • For an electric oven that is completely dead, switch its breaker fully off and on once.
  • Note the error code and whether the broiler still works.

Where we work

We come to homes across the Portland metro area in Oregon, among them Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego. Enter your ZIP code when you book and the form checks it right away.

Repair the oven or replace it?

It depends on the age of the oven, the cost of the part and what a comparable new one costs. After the diagnosis you have the numbers for your machine, and the decision is yours.
