Washer problems we fix

Will not drain, or will not spin

A drain pump jammed by a sock or a coin, a kinked drain hose, a worn belt, or a lid switch or door lock that no longer reports "closed". The machine will not spin a tub that is still full.

What to check first: will not drain, or will not spin

Leaking water

On a front-loader, a torn door boot or a clogged detergent drawer; on any washer, a fill hose, the drain pump or a tub seal.

Shaking, banging or walking across the floor

Worn suspension rods or shock absorbers, a machine that is not level, or drum bearings near the end of their life.

Will not start, or stops mid-cycle

A door lock, a control board, a motor or a pressure sensor that reads the water level wrong.

Not filling, or filling slowly

Clogged screens in the fill hoses, a water inlet valve that no longer opens, or low water pressure at the tap.

Loud roar during the spin

Almost always the drum bearings. On some machines this repair costs close to a new washer, and we will say so.

An error code on the display

A code points at a circuit, not at a part. We test the circuit before we replace anything.

Repairs we do

  • Drain pumps and drain hoses
  • Door locks, lid switches and door boot seals
  • Drive belts, motor couplings and motors
  • Suspension rods, springs and shock absorbers
  • Water inlet valves and pressure sensors
  • Control boards and user-interface boards
  • Drum bearings and tub seals, when the machine is worth it

Types of washers we work on

  • Front-load washers
  • Top-load washers with an agitator or an impeller
  • Stacked laundry centers
  • Stackable washer and dryer pairs
  • Compact and apartment-size washers

Washer and dryer repair in one visit

If the dryer needs attention too, say so when you book: describe both machines in the problem field and we plan the visit for both. A stacked pair comes apart for most repairs, so tell us if yours is stacked or in a closet.

How a washer repair visit works

  • Book online: choose the appliance, describe the problem and pick up to three times that suit you.
  • We confirm one of your times by phone or text. You are not booked until we do.
  • We come to your home, test the washer and find the cause.
  • You get the price before any repair begins. We repair it with your approval; if a part has to be ordered, we come back to fit it.

The diagnostic visit costs $90. If you go ahead with the repair, the $90 is applied toward it; if you decide not to repair, the $90 covers the diagnosis.

Our work and the parts we install carry a 90-day warranty. The terms are printed on your invoice.

What appliance repair costs

Washer brands we repair

Samsung, LG, Whirlpool, GE, Frigidaire, Maytag, Bosch, Electrolux, Miele, Kenmore, Amana, GE Profile, Fisher & Paykel, Haier, Hotpoint, Speed Queen and Asko. If your brand is not in the list, ask: most washers share their parts and their faults.

All the brands we repair

Before the visit

  • If the tub is full of water, leave it: we drain it as part of the repair.
  • Turn off the water taps behind the machine if it is leaking.
  • Note the error code if the display shows one, and at which point of the cycle the machine stops.

Where we work

We come to homes across the Portland metro area in Oregon, among them Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego. Enter your ZIP code when you book and the form checks it right away.

Repair the washer or replace it?

It depends on the age of the washer, the cost of the part and what a comparable new one costs. After the diagnosis you have the numbers for your machine, and the decision is yours.
