Sub-Zero Refrigerator Repair in Portland, Oregon
A Sub-Zero is built into the kitchen and built to be repaired. Mend My Appliance repairs Sub-Zero refrigerators, freezers, ice makers and wine storage at home across the Portland metro area, from a dusty condenser or a torn door gasket to compressor and sealed-system work.
We are an independent service, not a part of Sub-Zero. You get the diagnosis and the price before any repair begins.
Sub-Zero refrigerators
Classic built-in models with the grille on top, integrated and column models that sit flush behind cabinet panels, the PRO series, side-by-side, French door and over-and-under layouts, and undercounter units.
What we repair
- Condenser cleaning and condenser fan motors
- Evaporator fan motors
- Defrost heaters, sensors and drains
- Control boards, displays and temperature sensors
- Door gaskets, hinges and closers
- Water valves, water lines and filters
- Compressors, evaporators and refrigerant leaks
Sub-Zero freezers
Column freezers, the freezer side of a side-by-side, and freezer drawers. On most full-size units the freezer has its own compressor and its own evaporator, so a freezer that warms up while the refrigerator stays cold points at the freezer system: its fan, its defrost or its sealed system.
Sub-Zero ice makers
The ice maker inside the freezer, and the undercounter ice machines. No ice, or small hollow cubes, usually means a water problem: a filter overdue for a change, a valve that no longer opens fully, or a frozen fill tube. An ice maker that does not cycle at all is the module or its control.
Sub-Zero wine storage
Tall and undercounter wine storage units hold two zones at steady temperatures. The usual faults are a zone that drifts warm, a fan that has become loud, a door gasket that leaks, or a temperature alarm on the display.
Door gasket replacement
A torn, flattened or hardened gasket lets warm air in. You see it as moisture or frost near the door, a door that does not pull itself shut, or a unit that runs without rest. A gasket is made for the exact model and is ordered by model and serial number, then fitted and checked along the whole edge of the door.
Common Sub-Zero problems
Running warm
Start with the condenser. It is behind the grille, and when it is matted with dust the unit cannot shed heat. Sub-Zero asks owners to have it cleaned regularly. After the condenser come the fans, the defrost system and the door seal.
What to check first when a refrigerator is not cooling
A flashing Service indicator or a code on the display
The unit has logged a fault: a sensor, a fan, a defrost that ran too long, or a temperature that stayed high. Write the code down before you switch anything off.
Water or ice on the floor of the compartment
A blocked defrost drain, or a fault of the drain pan.
A loud fan, humming or rattling
A fan motor on its way out, or a panel or a tube that has started to vibrate.
Frost inside the freezer
Warm air passing a gasket, or a defrost fault.
Compressor and sealed-system repair
When the system that makes the cold has itself failed (a compressor, an evaporator, a refrigerant leak) the repair is larger, and on a Sub-Zero it is usually still worth doing. Refrigerant work is done by an EPA Section 608 Certified Technician.
Sub-Zero's own warranty
If your unit is only a few years old, check Sub-Zero's warranty first. It covers the whole unit in its first years and the sealed system for longer, through Sub-Zero's own service network, which we are not part of. We do not do warranty repairs on Sub-Zero's behalf: a repair that is still covered is theirs to arrange, and we will tell you so.
Finding the model and serial number
They are on a plate inside the unit, usually near the top of the refrigerator section by the upper door hinge. Have them ready when you book: parts are ordered by serial number.
How a Sub-Zero repair visit works
- Book online: choose the appliance, describe the problem and pick up to three times that suit you.
- We confirm one of your times by phone or text. You are not booked until we do.
- We come to your home, test the Sub-Zero and find the cause.
- You get the price before any repair begins. We repair it with your approval; if a part has to be ordered, we come back to fit it.
The diagnostic visit costs $90. If you go ahead with the repair, the $90 is applied toward it; if you decide not to repair, the $90 covers the diagnosis.
Our work and the parts we install carry a 90-day warranty. The terms are printed on your invoice.
Where we work
We come to homes across the Portland metro area in Oregon, among them Portland, Beaverton, Hillsboro, Tigard, Tualatin and Lake Oswego. Enter your ZIP code when you book and the form checks it right away.
Wolf and Cove
Wolf ranges and ovens and Cove dishwashers come from the same company and often stand in the same kitchen. One visit can cover them too.
An independent service
Mend My Appliance is an independent appliance repair company and is not affiliated with or endorsed by Sub-Zero. The Sub-Zero name belongs to its owner, and we use it only to say which appliances we repair. We do not do warranty repairs on Sub-Zero's behalf.
The EPA Section 608 credential named on this page is the technician's own, for refrigerant work. It is not a credential from Sub-Zero, and we do not claim one.
